Conservation Area

A conservation area, in telephony terms, is an 01/02 charge group that is deemed by Ofcom to be running short of numbers. The conservation areas are listed in the National Telephone Numbering Plan. Ofcom's current policy is to conserve number blocks as much as possible rather than move to the 'wide' 02x area codes.

Normally, number blocks are allocated at DE level (i.e. 10 000 numbers or a DE block) but in conservation areas Ofcom are only allowing CPs to request 1 000 numbers at a time.
